Nine robust and customized ground pedestals for the Ferry Port in Varberg, ensuring power supply for large vessels, withstanding heavy loads, and seamlessly integrating into the port environment for a sustainable and safe solution.

Powerful Solution in Discreet Form

The Ferry Port in Varberg, an important hub for maritime transport, required a solution to enable simple and safe power connection for large vessels docking at the port. This solution needed to withstand heavy loads and handle traffic from large machinery and vehicles driving over the installation surface. The project required a reliable and durable ground pedestal with a discreet design that blends into the surrounding environment, while being safe and user-friendly.

In collaboration with GIFAS-ELECTRIC, Bravida, Aarsleff Ground Engineering AB, and Sweco, we delivered nine PIAZZA 700 ground pedestals to the port area.

These ground pedestals are constructed from heavy-duty stainless steel and feature lids that can be locked even during operation, protecting the pedestals from external influences such as weather or unauthorized access.

In addition to withstanding vehicle traffic and snow plows, these pedestals have the capacity to handle loads up to D400 (40 tons), making them ideal for managing heavy machinery and other traffic regularly occurring in the port.

Tailored Functionality

The ground pedestals were equipped with various outlets, fuses, and residual current circuit breakers to meet the specific needs of the Ferry Port. Thanks to the ability to connect and use the pedestal with the lid closed, the pedestals can be seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure without compromising safety or aesthetics.

To ensure that the pedestals function year-round, even during the winter months, lid heating was installed, keeping the lids free from ice and snow. This not only facilitates access but also extends the lifespan of the products in the harsh port environment.

Result: The installation of the ground pedestals at the Ferry Port has resulted in a reliable and efficient solution that meets all the high requirements set by the port’s operations. The combination of durability, safety, and adaptability has enabled the ground pedestals to blend smoothly into the existing infrastructure while guaranteeing safe and stable power supply to the vessels calling at the port.
