Vulnerable Area
In winter 2019, Malux was contacted by the City of Malmö with a request to improve the public lighting in a particularly vulnerable tunnel.
Following extensive vandalism—including graffiti, bullet holes, and moped fires—the City of Malmö has invested in the renovation and refurbishment of the so-called “Zlatan Tunnel.”
Together with Malux lighting designers, the lighting department, and Bravida in Malmö, new LED lighting was installed for the ceiling, walls, and artwork. Since the luminaires are to be installed in a vulnerable environment, it is essential that they are vandal-resistant.
What Does Vandal-Resistant Luminaires Mean?
With vandal-resistant and impact-resistant luminaires, the quality of life and safety for all residents and visitors in the area can be improved, while simultaneously reducing costs for service and repairs.
Impact resistance is not the only important factor when we classify our luminaires as vandal-resistant. High demands are also placed on the design to prevent the possibility of tearing down the luminaire. Enhanced graffiti and fire protection may also be required.
