When Seadrill ordered four new ultra-deepwater drilling vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea in 2012, high demands were placed on safety and reliable technology. Two years later, in 2014, it was time for Malux to deliver explosion-protected equipment to Marinfloc – the supplier of the vessels’ complete water treatment systems.
Collaboration for Safe Solutions in Demanding Environments
In this project, Malux was responsible for delivering a complete solution for analyzing deck and rainwater in explosive environments. The solution was based on the Ex p protection principle – a pressurized enclosure – where sensitive equipment can be used in classified areas.
In addition to the analysis equipment, we also delivered explosion-certified heaters and installation materials to ensure control of all functions in the water treatment system.
The result was a robust, safe, and certified installation that meets all requirements for offshore environments.
Four Vessels – One Common Goal
All vessels currently sail under the Panamanian flag and are in operation globally within the oil and gas industry.

The project is a clear example of how Malux, in close collaboration with Marinfloc, contributes technical expertise and reliable deliveries – not only to vessel units but also to offshore rigs. Together, we have created solutions that last – even under extreme conditions.
