Information on grounding safety levels

Which grounding equipment should be used in my work area?

In this article, we have compiled a simple overview of areas and safety levels, as well as the most suitable solution.

Types of emergency lighting units

Level 1

Areas where:
– Interlocking is not possible or not required
– Operators are present during the process
– Process times are minimal

Typical processes:
– Conductive drums
– Small conductive vessels
– Hazardous areas
– General grounding

Solution: Grounding Clamps
Grounding clamps are the absolute minimum solution and rely on human inspection and monitoring.

They do not provide any indication that the ground connection is good.

Levels 2 and 3

Areas where:
Interlocking is not possible or not required
Operators are present during the process
Process times are minimal
Indication is required

Typical processes:
Conductive drums
Small conductive vessels
Hazardous areas
General grounding

Solution: Bond-Rite
Bond-Rite solutions are for a lower safety level and rely on human inspection and monitoring.

Bond-Rite indicates with a green flashing LED that grounding is in progress and monitors that the grounding circuit is intact.
It provides operators with a constant visual reference point, enabling them to monitor the status of the equipment.

Level 4

Areas:
Railroad tanks
Portable vessels and drums
IBC containers

Solution: Earth-Rite
Earth-Rite offers several solutions for higher safety levels with automatic monitoring and interlocking.
Like Bond-Rite, Earth-Rite provides an indication that the connection is adequate.

Level 5

Areas:
Tank trucks
Vacuum trucks

Solution: Earth-Rite RTR / Earth Rite MGV

Earth-Rite RTR is a grounding system for tank trucks that dissipates static electricity during the transfer of liquids or powders in hazardous areas. Earth-Rite RTR controls and monitors the ground circuit and verifies that the tank truck is correctly connected.

Earth Rite MGV is an explosion-protected mobile grounding system for fixed mounting on tank trucks or vacuum trucks. A mobile grounding system in a fiberglass enclosure for tank trucks that grounds and dissipates static electricity during emptying or filling.
